SAFH Hospice Benefits from 4 H Donation     09-02-2008

The Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital Hospice program recently received an $800 donation from the Gold Country 4-H club. 4 H club officers and members presented the check to Victoria Threlkel, SAFH Hospice clinical supervisor on April 17.

The club held a silent auction and dessert auction at its annual Hill Billy Hoedown, which took place in March at the Mount Vernon Grange Hall in Auburn. 4 H donated the proceeds from those auctions to the Hospice program.

SAFH Hospice holds special meaning for many of the club’s participants. According to Community Club Leader Nancy Washman, several club kids and leaders have had grandparents and other family members who were assisted by Hospice. "We felt that the Hospice program was a wonderful resource for the community and we wanted to show our appreciation," said Washman.

4 H is a youth development program that promotes citizenship, leadership and life skills. Youth are encouraged to get involved in community outreach to help them become contributing, productive and self-directed members of society. 4 H is the largest out-of-school youth program in the United States, with more than seven million members and 500,000 teen and adult volunteers.
