    Gastroenterology
Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital (530) 886-6559

At Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital, we provide a full array of GI services to diagnose and treat diseases of the digestive system.

Our skilled team of physicians and clinicians use the latest and appropriate technology to perform more than 4,000 GI procedures each year.

    Procedures include:

    • EGD (Esophagogastroduedenoscopy) - diagnostic, biopsy and variceal banding
    • Colonoscopy - diagnostic, polypectomy and biopsy
    • ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography)
    • Stenting - intestinal and biliary
    • PEG (Percutanous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) tube placement
    • Liver biopsy
    • Paracentesis

In addition, we now use the Endo Capsule™ for specific conditions of the small intestine or for people who have difficulty taking tests using the traditional methods.

These procedures are performed in our newly designed special procedures unit of the hospital. This unit is specifically designed to meet the needs of these GI services with its separate reception/check-in, waiting rooms and multiple procedure rooms.

    Endocapsule Technology

With new Endo Capsule™ equipment from Olympus, our special procedures department now offers this additional endoscopy option for those patients that may have dif¬ficulty with a standard endoscopy or for those requiring additional observation of the small bowel.

    Some capsule endoscopy facts:

    • It is a small capsule that contains a tiny camera which can take 2-4 images per second for 8 hours.
    • It has been specifically developed to view the small bowel.
    • Used mainly to try and pinpoint bleeding in hidden areas in the small bowel.
    • Useful for tracking small bowel tumors and obscure abdominal pain.

Endocapsule is a trademark of Olympus.
